Heyo! I’m in South Africa!! Got here last Sunday, started ministry on Wednesday (the jet lag is killer), and we’ve almost finished off our first week! This week has been a whole bunch of figuring out the logistics of how to properly function with a squad of 42 people fitting into 2 houses (which double as class rooms from 7:15am-2pm) with 4 bedrooms and one small kitchen. It’s been absolutely beautiful and amazing though! We’re living on the school campus of Global Leadership Academy, which is a k-12 private christian school that has a goal of helping Jeffrey’s Bay youth come together as one, regardless of class, to gain quality education and discipleship. This is the first generation of black youth that will be able to experience more equal education and opportunities since apartheid ended here in 1990! And GLA has a hope of ending the oppression and cycles of poverty in the black communities here by education and leadership training! It’s such an honor to be living in a place that is making South African history in so many beautiful and godly ways!
Team Tov is working with a ministry here called beats and books, where they’ll help tutor kids in math, English, and they’ll also get to be teachers of violin, guitar, music theory, flute, etc. Some people will also be doing admin and media stuff as well!
El Perseguido is doing manual labor the whole time! And like really good manual labor! They’re laying the foundation of a new “village” of a bunch of houses that will house teachers, students, people who can’t afford good housing, as well as a hostel too! They’re also gonna be laying the foundation of an additional school for STEM subjects, as well as the foundation and beginning of an auditorium for GLA!
Jubilee is going to be working with a school called Kings College. They are the first team of missionaries who has ever gone there, so we don’t know a whole lot of what they’re gonna be doing (our first day is Monday) there yet. But it will more than likely be working with landscaping on the school, being assistants for the teachers, teaching, and honesty whatever else they might need!
Our time in Jbay so far has been filled with just getting to know the locals and build relationships! The people here are SO KIND it’s actually insane! I’m not exactly sure what all GOD is doing here, but it is so evident that HE is at work doing really really big world changing things here! Discipleship, education, and outreach are very important to the Church here and it’s spreading Jesus’s love like a wildfire! I’ve only gotten a taste of it so far, but wow am I expectant!
And lastly just a fundraising update, I have $1,370 left until I’m fully funded for squad leading!! I also didn’t expect to stay on the field for 9 months so I didn’t save that much spending money either, so if you would want to help me out with just donating money for me to spend on snacks, local transportation, clothes, toiletries, and medical things if that (which hopefully it won’t be) is ever needed, it would be such a help! My venmo is @claytoncamp ! And please above anything just be in prayer that the LORD would provide all that I need!
Please reach out and let me know if you have any questions about anything, as well as if you have anything you’d like any prayer for!! Start a prayer request list in the comments!! LETS PRAY FOR ONE ANOTHER!!
